Montenegro on the world wine region map
The results of the published research indicate that Montenegro has played the major part in the long history of grapevine growing in the Western Balkans.
Multiannual research has classified Kratošija as the centre of genetically linked varieties and the basis of Montenegrin viticulture, classifying Montenegro into remarkable world viticultural regions.
Genotyping over 400 samples revealed 144 genetic profiles , of which over 100 corresponded to the vines, grown in Montenegro which represents a notable diversity of grapevines for one of the smallest European countries.
Kratošija is the genitor of 20 genotypes of the grapevine, grown in Montenegro, of the variety Vranac and the other genitor is the variety Duljenga, proving best its autochthonocity.
